Sartorius Research and Development Building, Building 26, Göttingen
Winner in the Office Production Category at the 14th Rigips Trophy
Spread over four floors, the new Sartorius Research and Development building houses a technical centre, numerous laboratories and offices, and has a gross floor area of approximately 10,200 m². The atrium serves as the building's social hub – it can be used for meetings and breaks, for example. An aesthetically appealing and acoustically effective creative design element here is the 'green wall', which features planting. Construction experts from Okel GmbH & Co. KG in Diemelstadt were responsible for ensuring the stability of the 20-metre-high wall, as well as achieving a Q4 surface quality. Wood plays a special role throughout the building, particularly in combination with reinforced concrete and steel, when used uncoated and visibly. This project presented several unique challenges, including high walls, strict acoustic requirements, high visual demands, increased moisture protection in the entrance and laboratory areas, and reliable fire protection in relevant areas of the hybrid structure, such as fire compartments, cable route penetrations and partition walls for various work areas. Fire protection up to F 90 was one of the central challenges. Close collaboration and coordination between the various disciplines were crucial to the project's success, as was the goal-oriented cooperation of all parties involved in the construction. The expertise of all construction participants was incorporated into the planning process from the outset, ensuring the successful implementation of the project. The Sartorius Research and Development building was awarded Platinum by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). This was the first time the award had been given to a research building.
