Rigidur & Timber Construction
The ideal combination of natural building materials
Do you place special emphasis on healthy living and sustainability when building?
Then, with the combination of building materials made of wood and gypsum, you have all the advantages on your side. The overlap of these two natural building materials for human well-being and the environment is remarkable. The positive properties of wood in construction and gypsum fiberboards on surfaces complement each other perfectly when building.
Whether it's a single-family or two-family house, large multi-story buildings, or extensions and densifications in urban centers – Rigidur gypsum fiberboards meet all structural requirements and individual demands in timber construction:
- High static properties – certified as effective bracing sheathing
- Robust, modern drywall solution with high surface quality
- Ideal space utilization and flexibility due to high stability and strength
- Universally applicable for fire and soundproof constructions or moisture-resistant solutions
- Maximum healthy living environment through natural, diffusion-open materials with high water vapor adsorption capacity
RIGIPS in timber construction
Building with gypsum & wood – 2 strong natural partners
Rigidur in timber construction – Strong advantages that count
Structural Stability
Wall panel design according to Eurocode 5: The Rigidur H gypsum fibreboard is approved according to ETA 08/0147 for use as load-bearing and bracing cladding for timber components. This approval also includes the panel properties required for design.
Earthquake-resistant construction with Rigips
Due to its construction method, timber construction is particularly suitable for earthquake-resistant building. The applicability of Rigips boards for absorbing earthquake loads, even up to the highest earthquake zone 3, is certified for the Rigidur H gypsum fibreboard by the General Building Approval Z-9.1-898.
Healthy building material
Rigidur H gypsum fibreboards are made from natural gypsum and recycled paper fibres for reinforcement and are free from adhesives and binders. They have been tested and evaluated for pollutants and environmental compatibility by the independent Institute for Building Biology Rosenheim GmbH (IBR) and awarded the seal of approval as a healthy building material. Furthermore, Rigidur H gypsum fibreboards have been included in the "Building Directory for Healthier Buildings" and are documented with the Sentinel House logo.
For a comfortable indoor climate
Rigidur gypsum fibreboards absorb excess moisture, for example, from rooms like bathrooms and kitchens, and release it later when the surrounding air is dry. This tested property of water vapor adsorption is as pronounced as that of clay plasters with their well-known moisture-balancing properties.
Thermal protection for comfort and energy savings
Modern thermal protection is the combination of thermal insulation and heat storage capacity. Modern insulation materials contribute to thermal insulation, while Rigidur gypsum fibreboards provide temperature-balancing heat storage capacity due to their high mass.
Built-in fire protection for timber buildings
Rigidur gypsum fibreboards are classified as "non-combustible" according to DIN EN 13501-1. This effectively protects the house structure from fire, which can occur inside the house due to carelessness or technical defects. The water chemically bound in the gypsum crystal is released under intense heat, cooling the entire structure and thus preventing the spread of fires. With Rigidur H, wall, ceiling, and roof constructions in timber construction can be created with tested fire protection properties. The structural implementation according to technical building regulations is easily possible with Rigidur H 18.
Sound insulation indoors and outdoors
The comparatively high weight of the stable Rigidur gypsum fibreboards, combined with modern insulation materials, ensures high sound insulation for both interior walls and exterior walls. Rigidur screed elements enable high impact sound insulation through optional cladding.
Very smooth surfaces for optimal design possibilities
The extremely smooth and closed surface of Rigidur gypsum fibreboards, without protruding fibres or sanding marks, is ideal for subsequent coatings without further surface treatments. Paints can be applied directly, and old wallpapers can be easily removed. Robust walls that can withstand everyday mechanical stresses such as impacts and scratches are another advantage of Rigidur gypsum fibreboards.
Heavy loads easily mounted
Walls built with Rigidur gypsum fibreboards are extremely stable. Loads can be easily and securely mounted on them. Cabinets, shelves, or even flat screens can be simply screwed to the wall with coarse-thread screws without the need for elaborate drilling.

Diffusion-open exterior wall constructions
For diffusion-open exterior wall constructions, a panel with vapor-retarding properties may be required on the inside. In this case, Rigidur Hsd with an sd-value of approximately 4.5 m is a suitable option. All other properties, such as in the areas of statics, fire protection, and soundproofing, correspond to those of Rigidur H.
Special features
Rigidur Hsd does not have a foil laminated on the back but instead features a functional layer on the front. This allows for an airtight connection using adhesive tapes. Thus, there is no interruption of the vapor-retarding layer at connections.
