The task carried out by Jaeger Ausbau GmbH + Co. KG was to completely renovate a listed late 19th-century building from 1898, including making it more energy efficient. The building, which is used as a school, was also expanded to include an annex, creating a complex with a gross floor area of around 10,000 m², providing space for approximately 720 students and 60 educators. The project took nearly five years to complete. It is particularly notable for combining historical building features with modern architecture and technical equipment. The original roof structure of the main building houses an auditorium and a music room. A room-in-room timber frame construction was used to spatially separate the ventilation system from the auditorium, music room and first escape route for fire protection purposes. Central challenges included creating tight connections between the roof covering and the auditorium's penetrations, integrating the Rigips Rigitone Activ‘Air acoustic ceiling into the technical building equipment, and ensuring perfect surfaces under demanding lighting conditions. The timber construction was carried out under extremely tight spatial conditions. Rooms of up to 130 m² were created and implemented with 'clean' fire protection measures. In the foyer, construction professionals were tasked with combining fire protection for the steel structure with restoring the original historical appearance of the ceiling using Rigips moulded parts.
