Case Study

Hilton, Hanover

Nominee in the Ceiling Solutions Category at the 14th Rigips Trophy

Thanks to its proximity to Hannover's Königsstraße and the State Opera, the Hotel Schweizerhof is one of the most sought-after addresses in the city. As part of its rebranding as "DoubleTree by Hilton", the hotel has entered a new design era. According to the plans of the architect and general contractor, Germerott Innenausbau GmbH & Co. KG, the restaurant, conference room and reception areas were restructured while the hotel remained operational. The partially sloped 1,000 m² ceiling area was individually designed. In the restaurant and reception areas, 300 metres of surrounding light coves, friezes and light troughs were installed to frame the variously shaped ceilings made of square and rectangular boards, running parallel to the windows. These encompass 18 perforated gypsum boards of various sizes, embedded in smooth friezes. These not only enhance the appearance of the areas, but also optimise the acoustics. They also reduce noise levels in the restaurant. All the newly designed areas create a pleasant atmosphere. The ceiling above the reception area is structured by approximately 2.5-metre-long and 30-centimetre-wide light troughs, ensuring the space is both glare-free and brightly illuminated. This construction was tailored and installed entirely on-site in two phases. Between the restaurant and the buffet, a stepped construction comprising ceiling aprons and panels adds another design accent. Here, the approximately 3.5-metre-high hall borders the traffic zone (work corridor), which is around 1 metre lower. The suspended ceiling spans the distance in three steps, each approximately 30 centimetres wide, forming an inverted staircase structure. Q3-level plastering of all wall and ceiling surfaces completes the surface design throughout the area.
