Sound insulation in drywall construction
Sound-insulated wall in interior construction: solutions, applications and information
Peace and quiet are essential for both focused work and relaxation and well-being. Our Rigips sound insulation systems effectively keep noise out.
RIGIPS wins ARCHITECTS' DARLING® Award 2021
On November 9, the 11th live presentation of the ARCHITECTS' DARLING® Awards took place again in Celle.
In a large-scale multimedia survey conducted by Heinze Market Research, architects and planners evaluated various products and solutions in the construction industry.
RIGIPS won the Bronze Award in the sound insulation category.
Effective soundproofing is therefore a fundamental challenge in planning and construction. Drywall offers many practical solutions, even for your next project.
Structural sound insulation: regulations and standards
Specific regulations apply to sound insulation in interior design. The national sound insulation standard, DIN 4109 'Sound insulation in building construction', which came into effect in July 2016, sets out the minimum requirements in great detail. There are also other regulations, such as VDI 4100, which describes the subjective perceptibility of normal residential noise between residential units.
Soundproofing is also health protection
Depending on the intended use, certain sound insulation values must be adhered to in accordance with the relevant standards. In practice, this means: during the planning stage, soundproofing must be considered as part of health protection, and the execution must comply with recognised technical standards.
To ensure quality and limit liability risks, manufacturers and contractors must provide evidence of the usability of building products and construction methods (e.g., drywall systems). We would like to support you in this regard. You can conveniently request the relevant test certificates via the web form.
Insulation of airborne noise, structure-borne noise, and impact noise
To create a pleasant living and working environment, it is important to insulate against all types of noise equally: airborne noise (e.g. speech and music), structure-borne noise (e.g. hammering) and impact noise (e.g. footsteps and furniture being moved). Rigips sound insulation systems ensure that these requirements are met safely and reliably.
Using the Rigips sound insulation calculator, you can easily and accurately calculate the rated building sound insulation value R’w or the rated standard sound level difference DnT,w for Rigips partition walls or solid walls with Rigips cladding.
Sound insulation for interior walls in drywall construction / sound-insulated walls
Compared to solid walls, which must be particularly heavy for effective soundproofing, the sound insulation of a partition wall in drywall construction—a sound-insulated wall—is influenced by various factors, including the surface mass, the spacing and bending stiffness of the cladding, the type of cavity insulation, and the profile used (sheet thickness, geometry, and stud spacing).
Can a gypsum board provide soundproofing?
When used in combination with proven Rigips system components in highly sound-insulating wall constructions based on special gypsum boards such as Rigips Die Harte or Die Blaue, or our Rigidur H gypsum fibreboard, gypsum boards can provide excellent soundproofing.
Our soundproofing boards, Rigips Die Harte and Rigips Die Blaue, set new standards.
Excellent sound insulation values can be achieved, particularly when used in conjunction with the acoustically optimised RigiProfil MultiTec profile, Rigips sealing felt, and high-quality Rigips joint fillers.
Does your project have specific soundproofing challenges?
Many construction projects have special and individual features and requirements, including components with cladding, shaft walls, burglar-resistant walls, and, not least, highly sound-insulating walls and moisture-resistant walls. Rely on our tailored solutions and special boards to meet your needs in every way.way.

What kind of sound insulation do you require?
The Rigips sound insulation calculator, which is based on DIN 4109, allows you to easily calculate the expected airborne sound insulation for horizontal and vertical sound transmission between rooms.
Why use drywall for sound insulation?
The rule of thumb, "the thicker, the quieter", only applies to solid constructions. With drywall interior walls, however, we can achieve a pleasant level of quietness even with extremely slim constructions. Proven Rigips qualities such as quietness and safety are, of course, included as standard.
Quietness
Quietness is a basic need. The diverse solutions from RIGIPS ensure effective sound insulation in interior construction. These solutions make it easy to meet building acoustics regulations according to DIN 4109 and other requirements.
Safety
Soundproofing is relevant to health and therefore to safety. RIGIPS offers solutions for every need that meet building acoustics tests as well as personal expectations—and even exceed them.
