Drywall ceiling installation with plasterboard: our solutions and ceiling systems
Gypsum boards for ceilings are not only a visual highlight in any room, but they also significantly improve to thermal, fire, and sound insulation.
Gypsum boards and ceiling systems: safety and aesthetic possibilities
For many people, ceilings are still just the surfaces in a room that are the hardest to paint and where lighting is installed. However, architects, contractors and modern builders define them quite differently: as planned surfaces offering excellent opportunities for room design, as focal points that can be used to create an aesthetic, as high-tech constructions that can influence room acoustics and as concealed installations for complex lighting, sound, ventilation and cooling systems.
Where can gypsum boards for ceilings be used in drywall construction?
Our gypsum boards and ceiling systems are suitable for both private and commercial spaces. In addition to their positive physical properties, they also offer aesthetic advantages, making them ideal for projects with specific requirements for material and design. Whether you opt for constructions made from standard gypsum boards or choose a variant with a demountable cassette system.
Suspended drywall ceilings – what installation types are available?
In the past, the first suspended ceilings made of gypsum boards were simply nailed to ceiling beams or battens, and the joints were sealed with the simplest materials. Today, we have come a long way.
There are now numerous installation options to meet a variety of needs and requirements.
The most important ones are:
- Suspension system for gypsum boards / suspended drywall ceilings: The advantages of this construction method are clear – on the one hand, suspending the ceiling of a room reduces the energy consumption required for heating, and on the other hand, it has positive effects on sound insulation and the perfect room climate. RIGIPS gypsum boards are ideal for this type of construction and can be easily and securely installed.
- Cassette system for drywall ceilings: high-quality and flexible – this is what the construction method with cassette systems stands for. In heavily frequented buildings, they perform excellently when equipped with highly effective acoustic boards such as the Gyptone systems from RIGIPS. They offer maximum functionality during installation and maintenance and demonstrably ensure optimal room acoustics. In addition, Gyptone cassettes provide an extra level of comfort: these cassettes come standard with the unique Activ’Air air purification effect.
- Self-supporting ceilings: the practical alternative – in areas where it is not possible to suspend a ceiling for structural reasons, self-supporting ceilings can be used as an alternative. The supporting Rigips profiles span from wall to wall, thus not burdening the ceiling. Another advantage is the routing of installations. Since the self-supporting ceiling does not require suspensions, the entire ceiling cavity is available for installations. Additionally, this ceiling construction offers advantages in sound insulation due to its decoupling from the raw ceiling. For very large spans, our Rigips wide-span beam ceilings are used. These provide the same advantages and allow larger spans to be bridged.
Which Rigips boards for the ceiling?
RIGIPS offers a wide range of modern and functional ceiling systems to meet all requirements. For simple applications, these can consist of standard boards in various suspension systems. More complex constructions, for example, feature special fire protection properties.
Additionally, our range includes ceiling systems with various perforation and slot patterns (exception for slot patterns: our seamless Rigitone systems). Technical and visual highlights are our demountable cassette system ceilings. These are available in a variety of design patterns and with planned acoustic properties – a win for architects and contractors.
If visible substructures or joints are not desired for aesthetic reasons, our seamless Rigitone acoustic ceilings could be used. The factory-treated Rigitone board edges provide additional processing security and prevent potential cracking due to processing errors.
An important aspect of any construction project involving the planning and execution of ceilings: the thickness of the gypsum boards used. This, of course, depends on your individual project requirements. In our product database, you can research the gypsum boards and drywall ceiling systems you need.
What are the current trends in drywall ceiling construction?
The topics of acoustics and sound insulation are indispensable in modern project realization. Whether in a home office or commercial spaces: distraction-free work with maximum concentration can only be achieved by those who are not disturbed. RIGIPS offers a variety of solutions that create pleasant room acoustics while meeting high sound insulation requirements. Rigips acoustic systems meet the highest standards in terms of material quality, design variety, and acoustic performance.
RIGIPS can also fulfill your aesthetic desires. Even our standard boards offer extensive possibilities for designing spaces into pleasant living and working environments. Additionally, there are special constructions, such as those with sound insulation properties or those with unique design requirements using folding and bending techniques with various friezes, steps, and edges.

What are the advantages of drywall ceilings made of gypsum boards?
While ceilings used to be more of a necessity than a decorative element, those times have fundamentally changed. Today, ceilings fulfill requirements and tasks that significantly shape and define modern construction projects. They cater to the needs and desires of future residents or building users and thus play a major role in their well-being.
Our gypsum boards offer many advantages:
Peace
In times when working from home is becoming increasingly common, aspects such as concentration and a sense of well-being in one's own home are gaining new importance. Even in office buildings, a noise-free or at least quiet environment is essential for productivity and well-being.
Safety
We humans always strive for safety – it’s no question that we want to feel this sense of security in our own four walls or at work. The robustness, soundproofing and fire protection of RIGIPS gypsum boards contribute to both subjective and objective feelings of security.
Freedom of design
Whether in the workplace or private living spaces – individual style gives every room the character and atmosphere in which one can feel comfortable. We provide the space for your ideas and offer highly flexible options for even the most complex of projects.
Indoor climate
A healthy indoor climate is essential for spaces where people enjoy living and working. In addition to aspects like good acoustics, the quality of indoor air plays a particularly crucial role. This is an aspect we can significantly optimize with our special building materials. Thanks to the unique active ingredient in Rigitone Activ’Air, harmful formaldehyde can be sustainably reduced by up to 60%. A lasting effect that continuously ensures particularly good indoor air quality and thus greater well-being.
