The Bangert building of the German Maritime Museum, built in the 1980s, was completely redesigned in 2023/24. The renovation focused on improving the inadequate acoustics of the two-layer gypsum board ceiling, which was made of standard boards installed at the time. The architectural firm decided to demolish the existing ceiling and rebuild it entirely using Rigitone Activ’Air 12/25 R perforated ceiling boards, with an acoustic plaster coating applied on-site by Gümmer. Following significant planning efforts, it was determined in close collaboration between Opta Trockenbau GmbH, Gümmer and the planning office that, unlike the original seamless installation of gypsum boards, a total of 410 linear metres of movement joints would need to be created by Opta Trockenbau GmbH in the new construction. Additionally, the joints between the perforated boards were sealed with VARIO joint filler. The result is an aesthetically pleasing and acoustically effective space.
