Nominee in the Office Production Category at the 14th Rigips Trophy
As part of the modernisation of Monheim's city centre, the new "North Extension" was constructed and connected to the town hall's existing structures. The interior work focused on curved walls made of 6 mm GK-Form with enhanced sound insulation, fire protection walls with T 90 doors and glazing for an internal floor connection, and freestanding walls made with Rigips Habito drywall boards. The centrepiece of the new building is the connection between the first and second floors, created through a circular opening in the concrete ceiling. In accordance with the fire protection concept and due to the floor connection, the WC cores had to be constructed with F 90 walls and, separated from the floor opening, with F 120 walls, including the corresponding glazing and door elements. The existing areas of the old building on the first, second and third floors were sustainably expanded and, in line with the architects' and client's vision, fitted with open, transparent office spaces, while preserving and upgrading the existing walls. These spaces were given their own character through individual colour designs. Door frames were either left in place or modified to stand as solitary architectural elements or to be used on another floor. Fire protection upgrades were also necessary in the old building. The attic was renovated using components from other floors. All drywall ceilings and walls were reinforced to improve sound and fire protection. In the attic and roof space, F90 shaft walls, complete with insulation and cladding to prevent the spread of fire, had to be constructed. To further improve room acoustics, ECOPHON acoustic absorbers and ceiling sails were installed.
