Renovating the Kreissparkasse Saarlouis, which was originally constructed in 1980 as a reinforced concrete skeleton structure, took about a year. During this time, load-bearing interior and exterior walls, ceilings and supporting columns were concreted. Due to the spatial concept, the usage units on the ground and first floor were merged and completely renovated. Accordingly, the floor plan was restructured and the interiors and building services were completely renewed. During the renovation, the ground and first floor of the building were completely vacated. Business operations and residential use continued in the rest of the building. The services provided by Saarland-based Trobau Wittlich GmbH & Co. can be divided into two main categories. Firstly, fire protection for the steel components to reinforce the existing structure and the steel construction of the mezzanine on the first floor. The second area consists of high-quality drywall construction, including the installation of walls, ceilings and aprons. Alongside the fire protection cladding and the structural reinforcement of the ceiling under the mezzanine, stud walls were installed using the Rigips MW12BB/BF system for soundproofing purposes. All walls were given a floating ceiling connection, which made installation particularly challenging at the curved sections. In addition to the stud walls, whose 'outer corners' were rounded, the soft, flowing architecture continues in the system partition walls. The rounded walls, in combination with the floating ceiling connections and, in particular, the rounded aprons, had to be manufactured with extreme precision to accommodate the system walls. The high density of installations also required close collaboration between finishing professionals and the technical building equipment team to prepare penetrations and firestopping.
