SIHK to Hagen
Nominee in the Ceiling Solutions Category at the 14th Rigips Trophy
Renovating the main office of the South Westphalian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (SIHK) in Hagen took over four years and was carried out while the office was still operational. Sections were shut down, renovated and reoccupied in phases. This process could only be achieved through close coordination between all parties involved in the construction: the client, the maintenance team, the architect, the structural engineer, the technical trades, the drywall builders, the painters and the tilers all worked together. The existing structure of the 1956-built building held some surprises, including unclear and confusing routing of sanitary and electrical lines, daring constructions of old stud and solid walls, missing fire protection and the absence of fireproof seals. A particular challenge was upgrading the fire protection to meet current regulations. Many of the old reinforced concrete ceilings lacked sufficient concrete cover and had to be protected by newly constructed F 90 ceilings. Fire compartments were separated by firewalls and F 90 stud walls, and additional steel beams were installed to handle potential impact loads. Lines were equipped with combination fireproof seals. The finishing professionals of the plastering company Josef Mennicken e. K. from Iserlohn clad the steel beams and steel supports in F 90. Additionally, lines crossing escape routes were encased in I 90 ducts. The entrance foyer and the conference hall foyer, the "business card" of the SIHK, had high design, acoustic, and lighting requirements. The focus here was particularly on lighting, in the form of circular and concave/convex light coves featuring Rigitone Activ’Air 8-15-20 R perforation.
