Senior living residence Wildburg, Vallendar

The Wildburg in Vallendar has a long history: since its construction around 1698, it has served as a cigar and cigarette factory, a reserve hospital, a residential area for war invalids, a monastery and a girls' boarding school, among other things. Following its recent renovation and conversion into a retirement residence, 61 high-quality apartments have been created. As you would expect with such a historical background, the old parts of the building were subject to monument protection requirements. This meant that numerous special constructions were necessary, particularly with regard to fire safety, and extensive consultations were held with a fire safety expert. Effective sound insulation between residential units was also a significant consideration. Due to the building's varied sections and the combination of historical structures with new constructions, no standardised "guiding details" could be developed. Instead, individually tailored solutions were required throughout. The old truss, which remained partially intact despite the new roof structure for design and monument protection reasons, had to be integrated into the construction, particularly the ceilings, walls and roof slopes, in such a way as to ensure effective fire safety while fulfilling aesthetic requirements.
