Multi‑purpose hall, Heimschule Lender, Sasbach

The newly constructed multipurpose hall at Heimschule Lender in Sasbach is set to become the future focal point of school life. Prominently located as a solitary structure on the edge of a meadow, the hall is sure to make a striking impression. The hall's significance as an event and sports venue is emphasised by its distinctive roof design. The elevated roof emphasises the purpose of the hall beneath it, while the overhanging roof connects the building to its surroundings. Inside the hall, the ceiling surfaces are particularly striking. They were designed as a honeycomb structure consisting of 15 square boards, each measuring 3 x 3 metres. Eight of these boards are irregularly shaped truncated pyramids, each tapering upwards to house integrated lighting elements. The remaining seven boards comprise metal cassette ceilings. The honeycomb structure appears to float due to the continuous shadow gap and the bevelled edge areas clad with Rigitone Activ’Air 8/18. In addition to structural and aesthetic considerations, aspects of ball impact safety and the integration of extensive installation technology also had to be taken into account in the design and implementation of this unique ceiling construction.
