Peter Gläsel School, Detmold

The new Peter Gläsel Elementary School in Detmold, in the eastern part of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, provides students and teachers with a modern and sustainable learning environment. The striking hexagonal honeycomb-shaped school building has a footprint of approximately 1,250 square metres, and is complemented by a 1,000-square-metre sports hall. From the outset, the client and architect prioritised the use of natural materials and sustainable building methods. Both buildings were constructed using sustainable timber construction methods, and products recommended for ecological building were used for the interior. For instance, EB-Innenausbau GmbH & Co. KG installed Rigidur gypsum fibre screed elements. The drywall team selected Rigitone Activ’Air perforated ceilings for the acoustic ceilings, which reflect the hexagonal building structures. These ceilings feature a natural air purification effect, providing both excellent room acoustics and consistently clean indoor air. The robust wall constructions meet all fire and soundproofing requirements for a modern school building. Visually, the interior spaces are defined by high-quality finishes and a clear design language.
