North Vocational School Centre, Darmstadt
Nominated in the Drywall Category at the 13th Rigips Trophy
The extensive overall renovation of the Nord Vocational School Centre in Darmstadt has been underway since 2018. The drywall work alone in the approximately 26,000-square-metre building cost almost 4.7 million euros. The interior work was carried out in several phases, enabling the project to be completed while the school was still in operation. Initially, the focus of the drywall work was on complex fire safety constructions. As well as installing numerous fire walls, the construction team covered all steel structures and existing concrete supports with special Rigips Glasroc F fire protection boards. Subsequent construction phases involved implementing various wall constructions, with their design varying according to the intended use of the respective rooms. In addition to corrosion-protected fittings in bathrooms, washrooms and kitchens, areas of the walls where particularly heavy loads were to be mounted were covered with either Rigips hard gypsum boards or the Rigips Habito drywall board. Another challenge was integrating the shed roofs into the new acoustic ceiling surfaces.
