Fürstenried School Centre, Munich

The Fürstenried School Centre in Munich was built between 1970 and 1976, and has since been listed on the Bavarian Monument Register. As part of a comprehensive renovation of the sports hall and swimming pool wing, the responsible company, Akustik‐, Stuck‐ und Trockenbau Sommer GmbH, used modern drywall systems and installed high-performance, ball-impact-resistant ceiling surfaces, among other things. Challenges included the realisation of a suspended vertical ceiling offset and the necessary static load transfer caused by it. Several outlets for the new speaker system also had to be integrated. To this end, a special expanded metal access panel was developed that can be suspended at any height from the raw ceiling using four threaded rods. The drywall professionals from Kirchdorf am Inn also undertook the structural assessment and design of the acoustic ceiling in the sports hall, including cladding an impressive shed roof structure. The cladding was carried out using Rigitone Activ’Air perforated boards to ensure balanced room acoustics. Due to the arrangement of the glass surfaces in the shed roof and the expected grazing light, particular attention was paid to the flatness and surface quality of the high wall areas.
