Ernst-Moritz-Arndt High School, Herzberg

As part of a comprehensive renovation, the auditorium at Herzberg am Harz high school was upgraded in terms of fire protection and optimised for room acoustics. In the first phase, Friedrich Henniges GmbH Innenausbau, the company responsible for the drywall work, completely clad the existing steel beams. This required high-performance solutions tailored specifically to the joints of the structural framework and that met heightened aesthetic demands, since the entire framework was to remain visible. Accordingly, all cladding was finished to Q4 quality level. The sloped ceiling boards above the audience area and the stage are visually and acoustically defining. These are made of Rigidur gypsum fibreboards and can be manually adjusted using roller bearings. The ceiling boards above the stage extend to a length of up to ten metres. Another particular challenge was securely mounting the hall lighting using specially bent steel clips designed around the fire-resistant cladding.
