Nominated in the Residential Construction category at the 13th Rigips Trophy

The building in Burgstädt, Saxony, dates back to 1730. The central goal of the construction project was to create living space in the previously uninhabited attic, while also improving the building's overall energy efficiency. A key challenge was to harmonise the visible structural elements with current fire protection regulations and desired contemporary living standards. Numerous specialised structural solutions were developed during the planning and execution phases, when compromises had to be made repeatedly to preserve the valuable building fabric. The end result is a modern living space "under the roof" complete with energy-efficient underfloor heating beneath refurbished wooden floorboards, visible old and new beam constructions, and efficient insulation.
