Flexible room layouts – adapt spaces quickly, easily, and with the highest quality of stay

Construction Diary

When the Düsseldorf Saint-Gobain headquarters were relocated last year, a solution was needed to divide the new spaces and rooms in the "Prinzenpark" commercial property flexibly. Fortunately, the development phase of the innovative, reusable Rigips RigiMove wall system had just been completed. The result was essentially a "self-experiment" with convincing results! You can find all information about RigiMove centrally at rigips.de/rigimove.

Step by step

After delivering all the components of the RigiMove system to the fourth floor of the new building via crane, the construction team began marking out the exact wall layout following a brief introduction. They used a cross-line laser and a chalk line to position the walls. Using the modular fastening tape to secure the substructure to the floor avoided potential damage, which could be caused by other fastening methods. This is particularly beneficial for continuous underfloor heating or valuable flooring.

Setting up the RigiMove module profiles

The next step was to position the first I-module profile. This was aligned precisely using a spirit level and fixed to the ceiling. The special feature of the telescopic RigiMove module profiles is that: they can be adjusted in height between 2 and 3.5 metres and the horizontal profile elements are already integrated.

All subsequent I-module profiles could be easily and quickly aligned and mounted by sliding them into the already installed module profile. The I-module profiles are equipped with factory-made threading and fixing tabs for the upper and lower U-profiles.
The fixation was then carried out by closing the quick-release levers. During the closing process, slight upward pressure is applied, ensuring secure hold until the final screwing to the ceiling.

Easy dismantling and reusability ensured

The aim of developing RigiMove was to make it easy to dismantle and reuse the essential components. Therefore, rather than being screwed, the system boards in RigiMove can be securely mounted on the substructure using Velcro straps. The module profiles are equipped with soft Velcro, to which the system boards can be securely attached using hook Velcro that is glued to the boards, allowing them to be removed at any time.

Unlike in standard drywall construction, the two edge profiles (C-module profiles) are only inserted once the substructure has been set up. The profiles are then screwed to the adjacent components on the sides and ceiling.

Many advantages: boarding with a tongue-and-groove system

Once the profiles for the wall had been set up completely, the RigiMove system boards were installed. They are characterised in particular by their lateral tongue-and-groove system and the hook Velcro described on the tongue side.

The tongue side of the first board was cut to size so that the groove would align flush with the profile, maintaining a distance of approximately 5 mm from the adjacent component. All boards were cut to a length about 10 mm shorter than the clear room dimension.

To attach the first board to each side of the wall, an additional Velcro hook strap is required for fixing. The simplest method for precise positioning is as follows: attach the hook Velcro strap to the soft Velcro strap on the C-module profile. Remove the adhesive protection strip, align the board and press it firmly against the adhesive strip along its entire length.

When positioning the first board on each side of the wall, attention should be paid to the exact vertical alignment and flush finish with the profile. All subsequent boards can then be inserted and attached with minimal effort. This allows for very quick board installation – unlike the traditional screwing method. The last board on each wall is cut to fit into the groove so that there is a gap of approximately 5 mm to the adjacent component. As with the first board, an additional hook Velcro strap can be attached to the last board on each wall side if necessary.

The perfect combination: RigiMove system boards and Akustic TP 1 Lanaé

Once the boarding on the first side was complete, the Akustic TP 1 Lanaé partition wall slab from ISOVER, which is specially developed for healthy and climate-friendly construction, was inserted into the compartments to optimise sound insulation. After closing the second side of the wall, RigiMove joint sealing tape was inserted all around. This improves sound insulation further and serves as an additional adhesive base for the later application of wallpaper. When used with the system boards, the wall construction achieves an excellent soundproofing performance of Rw = 51 dB!

To create a visually seamless wall, surface-ready, residue-free, removable wallpaper from Adfors, the Novelio Fusion range, was used in "Prinzenpark".

The more often reused, the better the climate balance

When needed, the dismantling of RigiMove system walls is carried out in reverse order. All essential components of the system are designed to be reused multiple times, thereby making a significant contribution to the circular economy. This significantly extends the lifecycle of individual components compared to standard partition walls. The ability to dismantle components separately makes RigiMove a prime example of circular construction.

And: the more often RigiMove is reused, the better the balance between greenhouse potential and primary energy consumption. This also improves other environmental criteria, such as the "Global Warming Potential", as well as reducing raw material, waste and water consumption.

With rising material and labour costs, RigiMove's value for money is even clearer. The average costs of materials, labour for assembly and disassembly, and disposal are all taken into account.

Versatile applications

The advantages of RigiMove are particularly evident in areas where frequent remodeling is naturally required:

  • Office buildings / rental offices
  • Multi-functional buildings
  • Retail construction/shopping arcades
  • Trade fairs / exhibition spaces
  • Museums.

RigiMove can be highly effective even when used as single-sided cladding in front of installations that need to be supplemented more frequently, such as in hospitals, or as a reusable dust protection wall.
