GF-Top hybrid wall system - robust installation walls in drywall construction

The Rigips hybrid wall system with gypsum plasterboard (GK) on the inside + gypsum fibre boards (GF) on the outside

When the combination of two different, proven systems creates a new whole with special performance features, it is referred to as a hybrid. This principle is not only innovative in the automotive industry. The newly introduced Rigips Hybrid GF-Top wall system combines familiar drywall boards to create partition walls that offer exceptional sound and fire protection, as well as particularly robust surfaces. It is intended for use in public buildings such as schools, hospitals and hotels, where walls are exposed to high stresses, but it is also suitable for residential construction.

The Rigips GF Top hybrid wall system is characterised by its economical double-layer construction: on a cost-effective lower layer of Rigips construction boards RB (GK) or optionally Rigips fire protection boards RF, Rigidur H gypsum fibre boards 12.5 mm (GF) are mounted, whose extremely high resistance to scratches and impact loads provides effective protection.

Compared to similar constructions with two layers of gypsum fibre boards, this construction significantly reduces material costs and assembly time without any notable loss of performance, as independent tests have shown.
In terms of fire and sound protection, this wall construction is excellent: with a tested fire resistance class of F90 and a sound insulation value of up to 54 dB, it meets the highest requirements.

Simple system construction

The Rigips construction boards (RB) or fire protection boards can be quickly cut to size and fixed in place with Rigips quick drywall screws 25 mm at 750 mm intervals, and filled with Rigips Vario joint filler. The second layer of Rigidur H gypsum fibre boards is fastened with Rigidur quick drywall screws 35 mm at 250 mm intervals. Thanks to the very smooth surface of the Rigidur H gypsum fibre boards, full-surface filling of the resulting upper layer is not necessary, saving additional time and costs.

Hybrid walls in residential construction

Hybrid walls are also intended for use in residential construction, such as with the Rigips Hybrid GK Top (GK instead of GF). In this system, "Rigidur H" gypsum fibre boards form the first layer and "Rigips-Bauplatten" form the second. As the "Rigidur H" gypsum fibre boards mounted as the first layer in this wall system do not require filling, and the "Rigips-Bauplatten" above them can be stapled independently of the stud framework in four rows, this system can be installed quickly and cost-effectively.

For optimal living comfort, the system provides excellent sound insulation. With a tested sound insulation rating of Rw,R up to 58 dB, it meets the highest soundproofing requirements. Thanks to the stable "Rigidur H" gypsum fibre board, home accessories such as lamps or pictures weighing up to 40 kg can be screwed directly into a "Rigips Hybrid GK Top" wall at any desired location without the need for dowels.

How properties become advantages...

  • Cost-effectiveness:

Using Rigips gypsum boards for the second layer can reduce material costs by up to 50% compared to similar constructions with two layers of gypsum fibreboards.

  • Load fastening:

Compared to traditional drywall constructions using two 12.5 mm gypsum boards, Rigips hybrid walls perform significantly better. For example, you can fasten approximately twice the weight using a simple Rigips quick-build screw or a metal cavity anchor.*

  • Fire protection:

In terms of fire protection, the hybrid wall systems also offer proven safety and protection with F 90 certification.

  • Soundproofing:

With tested sound insulation values of up to 58 dB, the systems confidently meet high soundproofing requirements.

*Provided the permissible load of the anchor is not exceeded according to the manufacturer's specifications.

Rigips hybrid wall system learns from nature – two proven and high-performance drywall boards from Rigips are inspired by the phenomenon of the flying fish

The flying fish (family Exocoetidae) is a unique creature: with its wing-like fins, it is equally at home in the air as it is underwater, gliding up to 50 metres above the water's surface.
When two different parts come together to form something new, it is called a hybrid. The special feature here: each of the combined parts already fulfils a function on its own. Through their combination, a new system with new properties emerges.
This principle forms the basis for the development of Rigips hybrid wall systems. Here, too, the foundation for a wall system that sets a new benchmark in the flexible design of walls is created using two proven, high-performance drywall boards. This system offers advantages in both public buildings and residential construction.

The Rigips hybrid wall consists of two layers on either side of the wall. One layer is made of Rigidur H gypsum fibreboards and the other is made of Rigips gypsum boards. Depending on the requirements, Rigips hybrid wall systems can emphasise the individual strengths of each drywall board.
The Hybrid Wall GF Top has a hard, scratch-resistant and robust surface that meets the extremely high demands of a school building, for example. The Hybrid Wall GK Top is designed for environments that require peace and quiet at all times, offering high soundproofing values.
