High planning reliability and a wide product range
RIGIPS: three new aBGs for fire protection constructions in multi-story timber construction
RIGIPS is the first manufacturer to offer solutions consisting of various types of gypsum boards for the construction of fire-resistant, load-bearing and space-enclosing walls in timber frame or board construction for buildings in classes 4 and 5. In addition to gypsum fibreboards according to EN 15283-2, gypsum boards according to EN 520 and fleece-reinforced gypsum boards according to EN 15283-1 have also been tested for use in fire protection constructions. Timber frame builders, planners, architects, experts and project managers can now benefit from three general construction approvals (aBG) for highly fire-resistant timber panel walls and building enclosure walls, as well as for walls that replace firewalls in timber panel construction. They can also take advantage of the wide range of solutions for fire protection constructions.

In order to offer its customers a broad portfolio and thus more options for fire protection in multi-storey timber construction, RIGIPS has had its Rigidur gypsum fibreboards, fire protection boards and Glasroc X special board, which is fleece-reinforced, tested by accredited testing institutes. The company has successfully applied for three general construction approvals at the German Institute for Building Technology.
Wide range of fire protection solutions in timber construction
As a result, three new general building approvals (aBG) are now available for highly fire-resistant timber board walls, building enclosure walls and replacement firewalls in timber board construction. With aBGs Z-19.34-2729, Z-19.34-2728 and Z-19.34-2732, RIGIPS now offers a wide range of fire protection solutions for timber constructions. In addition to gypsum fibreboards according to EN 15283-2, fire protection boards according to EN 520 and fleece-reinforced gypsum boards according to EN 15283-1 can now be used for fire protection.
Reliable proof of fire resistance
In order to ensure that timber buildings in building classes 4 and 5 can be constructed in accordance with fire protection requirements, the Model Timber Construction Guideline (MHolzBauRL) must be taken into account. Additionally, proof of fire resistance is required for each building component. In areas covered by the MHolzBauRL, this can be provided through DIN 4102-4 or an aBG.
“Thanks to different board materials, so-called mixed cladding, reliable proof of fire resistance and guideline-compliant execution of fire protection constructions in timber construction is now also possible,” explains Andreas Ebbers, development engineer at RIGIPS. “The great advantage for planners and specialist contractors is that they can select cladding materials that meet the specific requirements of the building component. These requirements may include aspects such as robustness, structural integrity, bracing, exterior wall cladding, moisture protection or even indoor air quality.”
Timber construction companies gain planning and execution reliability
The new aBGs give timber construction companies high planning and execution reliability, as they can choose from different joint designs and fastening methods. This enables various connection situations to be planned and implemented swiftly. Further information is available at rigips.de/holzbau.
