Core competencies of the Saint-Gobain Group
SAINT-GOBAIN is a leading producer of glass, high-performance materials, and construction products.
SAINT-GOBAIN manufactures, processes and distributes materials with which we are all familiar: glass products for buildings, cars and packaging; cast iron pipes; plastics; ceramics; mortar; gypsum; plaster; and many others besides.
The group is managed by the Saint-Gobain General Directorate in Paris. This department defines the corporate strategy. Reporting to this are the departmental directorates responsible for human resources, finance, research and development, legal affairs, planning, international development and communication.
The rest of the structure takes the form of a matrix organisation divided into main divisions and delegations. This ensures a sense of responsibility at both the activity and country/regional levels. The main divisions define the global strategy for the individual activities and oversee the operational business. These divisions are organised into five categories: flat glass, packaging, construction products, high-performance materials, and specialist building supplies.
The task of the delegations is to coordinate the activities of the companies represented within a country or group of countries, promote synergies between the various industries, and represent the SAINT-GOBAIN group.
