RIGIPS - trademark of modern drywall construction and synonym for an entire industry

"We’ll do it with Rigips!" say many builders and Rigips Brand of the Century
architects, referring to one of the many drywall solutions using gypsum board systems for interior construction. RIGIPS, one of the leading suppliers in the construction sector, stands behind this brand, which is used here as a generic term for an entire industry.

RIGIPS is a "Brand of the Century"

RIGIPS has been recognised multiple times as a "Brand of the Century" and has been included in the compendium of the same name, which is published by Deutsche Standards Editionen. It is listed alongside other classic German brands, such as Persil and Mercedes.

The RIGIPS brand was selected for inclusion based on the judgment of a board of renowned representatives from research, business and the media. During three evaluation phases, the board selected strong brands that clearly stand out in their product category.

The renewed inclusion in the "Brands of the Century" compendium is a special honour, as the board's reasoning states, among other things, that the brands "serve as benchmarks and role models for competition. They set standards in their industry and have become synonymous with an entire economic sector." Consequently, RIGIPS is listed alongside many renowned German brands. We are proud to have contributed to the German brand and cultural history.

The History of the Brand

Although the patent for gypsum board was filed in America as early as 1894, it took over 40 years for this high-performance building product to become known in Europe. The first gypsum board factory on European soil was finally established in Riga in 1938. Following the war, a new factory was built in Bodenwerder, Lower Saxony, and from there, gypsum-based boards and construction systems began their triumphant advance across Europe. In 1961, the company's owners officially adopted the name "RIGIPS" – combining the location of the first production site, Riga, with the natural raw material, gypsum – as both a trademark and a company name.
