Waterproof solutions with Rigips Glasroc X
Reliably sealed up to water exposure class W3-I
Moist and wet rooms can be found in almost every building – in private bathrooms as well as in public institutions, leisure facilities, or social establishments. The level of moisture exposure depends on the area's intended use. These are categorised as low, moderate or high exposure. RIGIPS offers numerous system solutions precisely tailored to individual moisture loads, based on impregnated gypsum boards and the innovative, moisture- and mould-resistant Rigips Glasroc X. The fleece-reinforced Glasroc X is ideal for building high-quality drywall systems in areas with moderate to high moisture exposure. When properly sealed, this special gypsum board provides a reliable alternative to cement boards, offering peace of mind to planners, architects, installers and builders alike.
Strong alternative to cement-based boards
Rigips Glasroc X is a high-performance special gypsum board suitable for areas with up to W3-I water exposure. In rooms with high moisture levels, this fleece-reinforced gypsum board is a reliable, efficient and high-quality alternative to cement-based boards. These boards have a smaller CO₂ footprint than cement boards and are also recyclable. They are also much easier to process due to their lighter weight. System solutions with Rigips Glasroc X are precisely tailored to the level of moisture exposure, providing reliable protection against moisture-related building damage.
Water exposure from low to very high
The classification into the respective water exposure class must be determined for each project involving moist or wet rooms or corresponding building components, before implementation. Classes are set as part of the planning process and depend on how the rooms will be used in future. The solution ultimately chosen depends on the expected exposure of each area.
Examples from W0-I to W3-I – interior wall and ceiling areas
Areas with low water exposure (W0-I) include wall sections above the bathroom and domestic kitchen sinks. Moderate water exposure (W1-I) in bathrooms refers to wall areas above bathtubs and in showers. Showers in sports facilities or commercial spaces fall into the high water exposure (W2-I) category. Areas with very high water exposure (W3-I) include those near swimming pool walkways and showers, as well as other areas in sports and commercial facilities.
Is waterproofing required?
The necessary seals in wet and moist rooms depend on the level of moisture exposure. In rooms with moderate to high moisture exposure, sealants must be incorporated as a fixed component of the design. These are composite sealants comprising liquid-applied sealants, boards or sheets. These include synthetic dispersions (liquid film), cement-synthetic combinations (slurry sealants) and reactive resins. Depending on their properties, the different sealing materials vary in layer thickness and are ideal for use on floor or wall surfaces.
Tested waterproofing recommendations for reliable damp and wet room applications
When used in conjunction with an effective sealant, the Rigips Glasroc X special gypsum board can be used without concern in areas with a high to very high level of water exposure (W2-I and W3-I). Several renowned construction chemistry manufacturers have confirmed the flawless adhesion of sealing systems to the versatile board, certifying it for use in areas with the highest level of water exposure.
