Rigips Glasroc X – fire or water? Both are no problem!

New fire protection certificates for building enclosure walls and fire-resistant components in multi-story timber construction

Rigips Glasroc X is a proven and well-known special gypsum board for use in wet and damp rooms, outdoor ceilings and exterior walls in metal stud and timber constructions. And the versatile special gypsum board can do even more: Rigips Glasroc X is not only highly resistant to mould and moisture but also extremely "robust" against the element of fire – as confirmed by a new general construction approval.

Fire protection with Rigips Glasroc X at a glance

  • Fire protection certification for building enclosure walls in timber frame construction for multi-story timber buildings
  • Timber board construction wall with direct plaster coating on the exterior cladding made of Rigips Glasroc X
  • F90 fire resistance when exposed to fire from the outside
  • Additional fire protection certification for fire-resistant components: F30 timber stud wall (according to EN 13501-2 fire protection class REI 45)
  • Maximum safety in planning and execution of fire-resistant components and building enclosure walls
  • Glasroc X meets the requirements for type F according to DIN EN 520 ("fire protection board quality")
  • The fleece-reinforced Rigips Glasroc X is mould-resistant
  • Easy installation by scoring and snapping
  • Lightweight design enables easier and safer handling

RIGIPS had its special board Rigips Glasroc X tested for fire protection properties by an accredited body and applied for general construction approval (aBG) at the German Institute for Building Technology – successfully! With the aBG Z-19.34-2729, there is now fire protection certification for building enclosure walls in timber frame construction for multi-storey timber buildings. This includes a timber board construction wall whose exterior cladding made of Rigips Glasroc X is directly coated with plaster, for example, from Saint-Gobain Weber. When exposed to fire from the outside, this construction achieves a fire resistance duration of 90 minutes.

Fire protection certification for fire-resistant components

The general building inspection certificate (abP) P-SAC-02/III-671 also includes fire protection certification for fire-resistant components. A timber stud wall, clad on both sides with Glasroc X boards, is certified to have a fire resistance duration of 30 minutes. According to the European classification standard EN 13501-2, the wall achieves fire protection class REI 45.

Reliable proof of fire resistance

In order to construct timber buildings in building classes 4 and 5 that meet fire protection requirements, the Model Timber Construction Guideline (MHolzBauRL) must be adhered to. Additionally, proof of fire resistance is required for each component. In the application area of the MHolzBauRL, this can be provided using DIN 4102-4 or an aBG.

Safe planning and execution of fire protection constructions

The two fire protection certifications offer timber construction companies maximum safety when planning and executing fire-resistant components and building enclosure walls. When it comes to preventive fire protection, safety is always the top priority. The goal is to safeguard human life and protect property from flames. As timber is a combustible building material, reliable and safe construction is all the more essential.

Cladding with non-combustible materials

One of the most important measures is to clad load-bearing timber components in non-combustible materials to protect them from fire. This process, known as "encapsulation", prevents the timber from igniting for a certain period. The flash point of construction timber is around 280 °C. During a "standard fire" according to DIN 4102, this temperature would be reached in less than a minute.

Rigips Glasroc X – a true all-rounder

With certified proof of its use in building enclosure walls and fire-resistant components, Rigips Glasroc X is a true all-rounder for fire protection in multi-storey timber construction, offering a variety of system advantages. The fleece-reinforced Rigips Glasroc X is mould-resistant and can be installed quickly and easily by scoring and snapping. Its lightweight design makes it easier and safer to handle. As a Euroclass A1 building material, this special gypsum board (EN 15283-1) is perfectly suited to constructions requiring increased fire protection.
