Modern timber construction

Timber construction with new structural solutions from ISOVER and RIGIPS

At the DACH+HOLZ International 2026, ISOVER and RIGIPS presented a series of newly developed construction variants for multi-storey serial timber construction – tested by ift Rosenheim. These include:

  • A building enclosure wall for buildings in Building Class 3,
  • A slim apartment partition wall, and
  • An especially efficient exterior wall suitable for buildings in Building Class 5.

Below, we will introduce the constructions in more detail:

The optimised building enclosure wall for Building Class 3 – simple and cost-effective

The building enclosure wall with fire protection requirements of F90-B from the outside and F30-B from the inside when using combustible components is specifically designed for Building Class 3. As it is not subject to the requirements of the model timber construction guidelines, it enables more straightforward construction than Building Class 4-5. We offer tested, cost-effective construction solutions featuring Glasroc X, Rigidur H and ULTIMATE, which are particularly well-suited to the serial prefabrication of timber panel construction walls thanks to their single-layered design.

With Rigips Glasroc X, RIGIDUR, and ULTIMATE

  • Rigips Glasroc X: High moisture protection, sound insulation, and integrated fire protection, for external lining – also suitable for garage walls as a render carrier board – with three months of free weather exposure
  • Rigidur H: Provides structural reinforcement with simple lining; particularly robust and smooth, closed surface
  • ULTIMATE HBF-031/034: The optimal combination of high thermal insulation, fire and sound protection, melting point > 1,000 °C, and tested in construction for F90-B/F30-B

The simple building enclosure wall for Building Class 3

  • Cost-effective, simple structure: 15 mm Rigidur H on the inside and 12.5 mm Rigips Glasroc X on the outside
  • Excellent sound insulation: RW = 73 dB, also meets increased sound insulation requirements, e.g., in densification projects
  • Tested fire protection: F30-B from the inside and F90-B from the outside for Building Class 3

The slim apartment partition wall – unbelievably slim

Apartment partition walls in timber construction are often designed as double stud walls to meet higher soundproofing requirements. Here, we offer the "slim apartment partition wall" as a simple, cost-effective alternative with a wall thickness of less than 200 mm. It features a timber stud wall that is insulated on one side with RIGIDUR and ISOVER ULTIMATE as the base. This is complemented by our sound-decoupled direct fastener Rigips "Klick Fix" with CD profile, an additional ULTIMATE TP-039 insulation layer and Rigips Die Harte lining. This optimised construction for prefabrication and installation achieves a sound insulation value of Rw = 65 dB.

Sound-decoupled walls – with RIGIDUR and ULTIMATE

  • ULTIMATE timber construction felt: efficient and reliable insulation
  • Rigidur H and Rigips Die Harte: easily combined for improved soundproofing
  • Rigips "Klick Fix" direct fastener: sound-decoupled installation with minimal effort

Apartment partition wall with a single stud

  • Slim, simple design: Single stud 60 × 100 mm; cladding with 2x 15 mm Rigidur H + 2x 12.5 mm Rigips Die Harte; insulation with 100 mm ISOVER ULTIMATE HBF-034 and 40 mm ISOVER ULTIMATE TP-039 achieving Rw = 65 dB.
  • Wall thickness: < 200 mm
  • Soundproofing optimisation: with sound-decoupled direct fastener Rigips "Klick Fix" with CD profile and additional ULTIMATE TP-039 insulation layer up to Rw = 65 dB

Efficient multi-storey timber frame construction up to Building Class 5 – fireproof, space-saving exterior walls

With the introduction of the new Model Timber Construction Guideline, building class 5 can now also be executed more easily in timber frame construction (previously only in solid timber construction or with individual approval and fire protection concept). This enables timber construction companies to economically offer larger projects nationwide in timber panel construction. This allows timber construction companies to offer larger timber panel construction projects nationwide at an economical price. Using ULTIMATE insulation (with a melting point of over 1,000°C), Rigidur H wall boards for interior lining and Glasroc X boards for exterior lining, we can provide unique, high-performance products for efficient, space-saving wall constructions up to Class 5. Further optimisations are possible with alternative timber products, such as laminated veneer lumber, for which we collaborate with partners like Metsä (Kerto LVL).

Reaching new heights with ULTIMATE

  • Efficient and safe: The requirements of the MHolzBauRL 2024 can be easily and cost-effectively met with optimised ULTIMATE timber construction products
  • Non-combustible: Euroclass A1, melting point > 1,000 °C. The Model Timber Construction Guideline does not specify minimum raw densities for standard applications! Therefore, ULTIMATE can also be used with < 30 kg/m³. Additionally, the expert opinion for the alternative use of ULTIMATE with deviating minimum raw densities for standard constructions according to DIN 4102-4 has been updated and adapted.
  • Outstanding insulation performance for slim constructions: up to λD = 0.030 W/(m·K) with ULTIMATE FSP-030. If a ventilated rainscreen façade is additionally planned in combination with a timber panel wall, the new ULTIMATE façade slabs with a declared value of λD = 0.030 W/(m·K) can be used. Where the insulation is subject to mechanical loads, the use of ULTIMATE AP Supra‑031 is recommended, particularly in large‑format slabs with dimensions of up to 3.0 × 1.25 m (storey‑height).

The efficient exterior wall up to Building Class 5

  • ULTIMATE HBF-031 + AP Supra-031: combined cavity and VHF insulation with a melting point > 1,000 °C and λD = 0.031 W/(m·K); combined cavity and over-insulation with λD = 0.031 W/(m·K) for a particularly thermally efficient and space-saving design in the timber frame exterior wall and according to fire protection requirements in Building Class 4-5.
  • Rigidur H wall boards: robust, smooth surface and excellent sound and fire protection: statically approved, non-combustible, and highly soundproof lining with an extra hard and smooth surface, biologically recommended, moisture-regulating for a pleasant indoor climate, also available in large formats up to 6.0 - 2.5 m for efficient, joint-reduced serial processing.
  • Rigips Glasroc X and Vario® XtraSafe: moisture protection included: With Glasroc X on the exterior, up to 3 months freely exposed to weather until the facade is completed – providing weather protection and flexibility in construction site processes

Additional optimisation possible: e.g., in combination with LVL laminated veneer lumber from Metsä Kerto®, material efficiency through reduction of cross-sections due to higher load-bearing capacity of LVL, as well as reduction of thermal and sound bridges compared to standard KVH frames.
