Top marks for high-quality practice refurbishment
Convincing in both form and function
A modern paediatric and adolescent medicine practice was established in Erkelenz, North Rhine-Westphalia, by renovating a commercial space of approximately 185 square metres. The practice meets the highest standards of comfort, functionality and design. DesignFormArt GmbH, Moers, was responsible for the interior construction and had only two weeks to implement outstanding design ideas and detailed solutions within a clearly defined budget. Key aspects included high-quality soundproofing, optimal room acoustics and an overhead structure that matched the design and form of the reception counter, with elaborate ceiling friezes that were prefabricated in the construction experts' workshop.

For a long time, many paediatric practices were characterised by dull white walls, cold lighting and limited play options. The paediatric and adolescent medicine practice in Erkelenz could not be more different. With its inviting 30-square-metre reception area, spacious waiting room and individually designed treatment rooms, it is a place where young patients and their parents, as well as the entire practice team, can feel at ease. DesignFormArt GmbH made a crucial contribution to the success of this renovation project, providing outstanding design ideas and perfect execution.

High-quality interior construction in just two weeks
Due to structural changes in the roof construction, the drywall professionals from Moers were given just two weeks to complete the entire interior construction. The process was made even more challenging by the fact that other trades were working simultaneously. "When we received the order, we immediately sat down with the doctor and architect to incorporate our design ideas and expertise in selecting the right building materials", recalls Dennis Attrot, founder and owner of DesignFormArt GmbH. "Of course, we also kept the specified budget in mind." As well as creating high-quality surfaces, the construction team prioritised achieving optimal acoustics and powerful soundproofing. Dennis Attrot brought hand samples and relevant technical data sheets to the meetings, quickly convincing everyone involved.

Shadow-free finishes, optimal acoustics, and high soundproofing
To avoid striated lighting from the outset, the original plan of simple plasterboard ceilings was replaced with Rigips Die Weiße. This innovative plasterboard features high-white special paper and offers superior surface quality. Instead of simple perforated boards, nearly all rooms were fitted with Rigitone Active‘Air perforated boards, which are highly effective at absorbing sound. Additionally, Rigips Gyptone Activ‘Air cassette ceilings were chosen over smooth inset tiles for their functionality and aesthetic appeal. Thanks to their Active‘Air technology, Rigips construction boards reduce concentrations of air pollutants, such as formaldehyde, by up to 60% in rooms permanently. This exceptional feature is particularly valuable for spaces where children play.
To ensure optimal soundproofing, the construction experts installed SSP2 sound insulation layers from ISOVER. These glass wool sound-absorbing layers are coated with black fleece on one side and are ideal for covering perforated or slotted cladding boards on acoustic ceilings.
The construction company also impressed with their perfectly detailed solutions, such as the circular ceiling skirts, which were made from pre-fabricated three-dimensional components in the workshop. The extremely robust Rigips Habito 12.5 mm was used to install the pendant lights and reinforce the construction. Curved light coves and ceiling friezes made from plasterboard components
The central feature of the practice is the large reception desk and its elaborate overhead structure, which features height variations. "Originally, we planned an L-shaped overhead structure", says Dennis Attrot. "We incorporated our idea of mirroring the curved form of the counter under the ceiling as a light cove. This creates a very harmonious and inviting reception area."
To ensure perfectly executed drywall construction, the plasterboard components were prefabricated in the DesignFormArt GmbH workshop based on CAD drawings, before being assembled on site. The components for the aesthetically pleasing and functional ceiling frieze in the waiting room were also created from custom drawings. Its curved form skilfully aligns with the lamp pattern inside, while an encompassing shadow gap on the outside gives it the desired floating appearance. The surrounding light cove provides pleasant, indirect lighting.

Elaborate detailed solutions enhancing the overall appearance
The construction company also impressed with its detailed solutions. Of particular note are the circular ceiling skirts, which were made from prefabricated three-dimensional components in the workshop and replaced simple round light cut-outs. The extremely robust Rigips Habito 12.5 mm was used to reinforce the construction for mounting pendant lights with a diameter of 600 mm in the suspended ceiling above the reception desk. This solid drywall board can securely and effortlessly support even heavy loads using only a screwdriver and standard screws.

An additional detailed solution that shapes the character of the practice is found in one of the treatment rooms. For this space, the construction team engraved the Borussia Mönchengladbach logo onto a milled Rigips construction board and integrated it into the Rigips grid ceiling. This "Borussia Room," a personal request from the doctor, delights not only football fans among the younger patients but also the older ones.
