Safe electrical installations in timber construction – thanks to arc resistance

Rigidur H gypsum fiberboard by RIGIPS – the perfect base for house connection boxes and distribution cabinets

When installing a house connection box for an electrical installation in a residential building, it is essential to use an arc-resistant surface in accordance with DIN and VDE regulations. Rigidur H gypsum fibreboard from RIGIPS, which is used for wall construction and is pre-primed, smooth and has an especially hard surface, meets these requirements exceptionally well. Accredited testing institutes certify the high-performance board from the drywall specialist with the best possible rating of LV 1.1.1.1 according to DIN VDE 0303 T5, which indicates exceptionally high arc resistance. This enables safe surfaces for house connection boxes and distribution cabinets to be created using Rigidur H.

Accredited testing institutes have certified the high-performance Rigidur H gypsum fibreboard from RIGIPS with the best possible rating of LV 1.1.1.1 according to DIN VDE 0303 T5, thanks to its exceptionally high arc resistance. It is therefore ideal for creating safe surfaces for house connection boxes and distribution cabinets. Photo: SAINT-GOBAIN RIGIPS GmbH

Different regulations and standards apply to the installation of electrical distribution systems in buildings. The focus is primarily on the safety and functionality of the systems. For instance, DIN 18015 outlines how electrical installations in residential buildings should be planned and carried out. Meanwhile, VDE regulations focus on the selection and installation of cables, wires, switching devices and protective measures.

Arc-resistant wall surface required

House connection boxes and cables must be installed on an arc-resistant wall surface. Structural prerequisites must also be in place to ensure the safe installation of the house connection. After installation, the boxes must remain easily accessible to allow, for example, the fire department to access them unhindered in case of damage.

Rigidur H gypsum fibreboards from RIGIPS offer the highest level of arc resistance, making them ideal for use with house connection boxes and distribution cabinets. In order to classify a surface as "arc-resistant", an accredited testing institute conducts a low-voltage high-current arc test. This test procedure is defined in DIN VDE 0303 Part 5: Low-voltage high-current arc test.

Easy installation

Rigidur H gypsum fibreboards are not only arc-resistant, but they also impress with easy installation when setting up electrical distributors. House connection boxes, distribution cabinets, media rails and cable ducts can be particularly easily attached to the wall made of Rigidur H gypsum fiberboards using coarse-thread screws. Elaborate doweling, drilling, or backing is not required.
