Reliable planning of fire protection in timber construction with the updated DIN 4102-4

New guidance document on classified fire protection solutions with RIGIPS Rigidur H gypsum fibreboards

The revised DIN 4102-4 (Fire behaviour of building materials and components – Part 4) has been in effect since June 2025. The updated technical regulations contain significant innovations, particularly for timber construction using gypsum fibre boards. The non-combustible, highly sound-insulating and biologically recommended Rigidur H gypsum fibre boards from RIGIPS can be used to create numerous fire-protected constructions in accordance with the expanded standard. RIGIPS provides a fast and clear overview of the newly regulated areas of application and possible constructions with Rigidur H in a new brochure. It can be found at rigips.de/DIN4102-4, along with other current documents relating to timber construction, including constructions involving fire protection boards.

The revised DIN 4102-4 (Fire behaviour of building materials and components – Part 4) has been in effect since June 2025. The updated technical regulations contain significant innovations, particularly with regard to timber construction using gypsum fibre boards. RIGIPS provides a clear and concise overview of the newly regulated areas of application and possible constructions using Rigidur H gypsum fibre boards in a new brochure. You can find this brochure at rigips.de/DIN4102-4, along with other current documents relating to timber construction.

The revised DIN 4102-4 standard provides documentation on the fire protection properties of classified building materials and components, including walls, ceilings and columns. It provides the basis for verifying construction types in structural fire protection. For architects and planners, these catalogue-style regulations are essential for ensuring that buildings are safe and comply with standards.

More classified fire protection variants with Rigips Rigidur H

Compared to the previous version, the updated DIN 4102-4 provides more comprehensive component catalogues, which only define the basic construction components. Gypsum boards and gypsum fibre boards can be used as effective fire-resistant cladding. Notably, the standard provides an extensive selection of classified fire protection constructions for Rigidur H gypsum fibre boards for the first time, rendering many previously necessary special verifications redundant.

Newly regulated areas of application at a glance

In a new brochure on standardised fire protection, RIGIPS presents its most important fire protection solutions featuring Rigidur H gypsum fibre boards in great detail. These include non-load-bearing and load-bearing timber stud walls, exterior walls, building closure walls, fire-resistant walls, solid wood walls, timber beam ceilings with metal substructures and directly clad timber beam ceilings, partially exposed timber beams and solid wood ceilings, as well as classified attic conversions.

Detailed descriptions for safe implementation

"The revised DIN 4102-4 has grown to 349 pages with this update, substantially expanding the sections on timber and drywall construction", explains Andreas Ebbers, Development Engineer in Rigips System Management. "However, the greater scope sometimes reduces clarity. That’s why Rigips has created five clearly structured brochures for its construction variants. Rigips fire protection constructions are described in detail, making planning and execution safer and easier."

The brochure “Standardised fire protection constructions in timber construction. With Rigidur H gypsum fibre boards from RIGIPS" as well as all other documents for timber construction are now available free of charge for download at rigips.de/DIN4102-4.
