New at DACH+HOLZ 2026: Multi-story serial timber construction
More efficient, space‑saving and cost‑effective – ISOVER and RIGIPS present new, optimised construction solutions
Multi-storey timber construction using pre-fabricated components and modules is in a state of tension: on the one hand, it is gaining importance as one of the most crucial methods for achieving socially acceptable new construction goals in Germany. The introduction of the new Model Timber Construction Guideline (MHolzBauRL) and the update of DIN 4102-4 also simplify many planning processes. On the other hand, however, high soundproofing and fire protection requirements also apply. Additionally, the lack of standards often increases the cost of this construction method. ISOVER and RIGIPS are using this year's DACH+HOLZ International to present optimised example constructions that make multi-storey serial timber construction more efficient, space-saving and cost-effective without compromising on building physics or living comfort.
The new regulations now enable innovative timber frame projects in building class (GK) 5. However, the high soundproofing and fire protection requirements for buildings constructed from the combustible material wood, as well as the complex layer structures of component constructions that result, are perceived as obstacles to planning and execution. ISOVER and RIGIPS are addressing this complexity by presenting optimised example constructions for the first time at DACH+HOLZ. "The constructions we are showcasing are part of a series of fire and soundproofing variants tested at ift Rosenheim, which will demonstrably make multi-story timber construction more efficient, space-saving, and cost-effective, " explains Michael Berger, Market Manager for Serial Timber and Modular Construction at ISOVER and RIGIPS.
Building perimeter wall for GK 3
One of the exemplary constructions presented is an optimised building partition wall with fire protection requirements of F90-B on the exterior and F30-B on the interior when combustible components are used. This is a specific construction solution for buildings in Class GK 3, which are not subject to the requirements of the MHolzBauRL. This allows for simpler construction compared to Classes GK 4 and 5. Using the fleece-reinforced, moisture-resistant special gypsum board Rigips Glasroc X, the robust Rigidur H gypsum fibre wallboards and the high-performance mineral wool ISOVER ULTIMATE, the two manufacturers offer an economical, tested construction variant for timber panel walls as only single-layer cladding is required.

The slim apartment partition wall
Another example of an IFT-tested, high-performance timber construction is the "slim apartment partition wall" — a simple and cost-effective alternative with a wall thickness of less than 200 mm. Unlike the double stud walls often used, the basis of this wall is a simple timber stud wall. Thanks to the innovative combination of gypsum fibre and fire protection boards, ULTIMATE insulation and sound-decoupled Rigips direct fasteners, it offers sound insulation of up to Rw = 65 dB.

Efficient even in GK 5
Following the introduction of the MHolzBauRL, timber construction companies can now undertake larger projects nationwide without requiring individual approvals. ISOVER and RIGIPS offer a particularly efficient and space-saving wall construction up to GK 5 based on the non-combustible (A1, melting point > 1,000 degrees Celsius) ULTIMATE mineral wool, robust Rigidur H gypsum fibre boards and the moisture-resistant Rigips Glasroc X as external cladding. Further optimisations and variants are also possible with alternative load-bearing timber products such as laminated veneer lumber.
