3D measurement via smartphone
RIGIPS launches the rigi3Dplan app – free basic version creates digital measurements in seconds
The new Rigi3Dplan app from RIGIPS is an innovative digital solution for quickly and easily measuring rooms and creating spatial 3D models. Users receive a digital measurement of the scanned room in just seconds, along with the exact dimensions of each component (walls, ceilings and floors). The generated data can then be saved and exported for further use and planning. The current version of this useful app is available free of charge via the Apple App Store. Professionals and hobbyists alike are invited to contribute their feedback, ideas and suggestions to help develop additional features and continuously improve the app.
The new RIGIPS rigi3Dplan app offers an innovative digital solution for quickly and easily measuring rooms and creating spatial 3D models.
Thanks to the rigi3Dplan app, the tedious and time-consuming process of measuring rooms with a tape measure, pencil and paper is now a thing of the past. This new digital method of room measurement requires only a smartphone or tablet. Rooms can be scanned and measured in seconds using the camera. The dimensions of the scanned surfaces are displayed on the screen, allowing users to read and utilise them immediately if needed. The free basic version of the intuitive rigi3Dplan app allows you to perform and save up to ten complete scans, along with their corresponding dimensions and 3D models. If users wish to perform additional scans and save the data, they can simply delete any unnecessary data. The newly collected data can then be saved again on the smartphone and reused. It is always possible to scan rooms and determine the corresponding dimensions without saving — even if ten scans have already been saved.
Both the 3D model created by the app and the underlying data can easily be exported to other programmes for further processing. The 3D model can be exported in the .fbx format, which is widely used in the film and gaming industries, or in the .usdz format developed by Disney and Pixar. The determined room dimensions can be easily forwarded and processed via a CSV file.

“As simple as creating a smartphone video”
“Our goal is to make tedious and time-consuming measurements as simple as creating a smartphone video for thousands of professional and amateur craftspeople,” explains Martin Büsch, Head of Marketing Communications at RIGIPS. “The Rigi3Dplan app is based on cutting-edge technology, enabling highly precise measurements and calculations to be performed digitally and literally ‘in no time.’ The next stage of development will be a paid version that includes additional valuable features, such as direct integration with the Rigips system search. This will enable complete expansion systems to be calculated directly.”
The new features will include configuration options for walls, as well as mass and quantity calculations and the ability to output a parts list. New components, such as partition walls, can also be drawn and calculated within the 3D room model generated by the app.
Technical requirements
The Rigi3Dplan app uses state-of-the-art LiDAR technology to scan the environment. It enables the room to be measured quickly and provides highly reliable data. This technology is currently only available on iOS devices in the "Pro" version. Consequently, the new app can only be used on devices in this series at present. The new rigi3Dplan app in the "Pro" version can be downloaded from the App Store for iOS devices.
