Building material with tradition and future

The Professional Association of German Geoscientists e. V. has named gypsum the Rock of the Year 2022. The ceremonial naming took place on 6 October in Iphofen, Bavaria, in front of more than 80 guests. In collaboration with the Federal Association of the Gypsum Industry, a piece of freshly quarried gypsum was unveiled in a ceremony. Representatives from Saint-Gobain Rigips GmbH and Saint-Gobain Formula GmbH were also in attendance.

Raimund Heinl, CEO of Saint-Gobain in Germany and Austria, said: "Gypsum has simply become indispensable in our daily lives. That’s why it is important that this rock is given the attention it deserves today and throughout this year. At Saint-Gobain, we stand for responsible, nature-friendly mining in Germany, ensuring supply while making an important contribution to energy-efficient construction practices."
